A rectangle of morning
Every portrait we make starts the same way. We clear a room, find the best window and decide that is all the light we get. It sounds like a limit. It works like a compass.
When the light cannot move, the person has to. You watch how they turn toward it, how they relax when it softens. The picture becomes a record of that conversation.
What it costs
It costs time. Some mornings the light never arrives and we go home with nothing. We have decided that is a fair price for the frames that do work.
